The biggest advantage of having a Nintendo Switch console is that it offers gaming on the go without carrying a home theatre with you. It looks like the same will be true for the Xbox Series S as well, kinda. This Kickstarter project by UPspec Gaming, an “Australian based start-up focussed on designing and selling unique gaming accessories” has shown off a display that hooks to the back of the Xbox Series S console.
Xbox Series S portable xScreen features and specificationsThe xScreen hooks to the back of the Xbox Series S and connects to the HDMI port and a USB port at the back of the console. It stays secure to the console thanks to the latches on the side. You only connect the power cable to the console as the display draws power from the console's USB port. The xScreen has an 11.6-inch 1080p display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It also has stereo speakers. There are controls on the display for volume, brightness and screen settings. The screen is compact weighing a mere 695 grams.
Considering the power of the console, the portability of the display and the fact that you need to only connect one power cord to the console for, well, power, it is quite impressive what the display can do. This isn't the first time we have seen a portable display for a gaming console, but it's nice to see the compact form factor of the Xbox Series S being accompanied by such a display this early in the console's life cycle adding a bit of portability to Microsoft’s affordable next-gen offering.
Xbox Series S portable xScreen availabilityThe Xbox Series S portable xScreen is expected to go on sale in early 2022 and pricing details along with launch markets will be available then.
