Battlegrounds Mobile India may have been officially available for barely a few days. But that was enough time for the game to garner over 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store. As such, the game is now the ‘Top Free Game’ in the store. It is also currently placed at the number two spot in the list of the ‘Top Grossing Games’, second only to Garena Free Fire. The number of downloads for Battlegrounds Mobile India will only increase as time goes on. It should be noted that the game garnered over 20 million re-registrations before the official launch.
Of course, anyone who has followed the story of Battlegrounds Mobile India would know that such high numbers are understandable. To recall, the game was suddenly banned by the Indian government, which cited security and privacy issues. At the time, it was one of the most popular games in the country. So naturally, the move disappointed a lot of gamers. So when Krafton announced the launch of PUBG Mobile India sometime around November, excitement was at a high once again. However, the launch was delayed once again.
A few months later, Krafton announced that the game would finally make a comeback albeit with a new name, Battlegrounds Mobile India. The game would be functionally the same as PUBG Mobile, barring a few changes to tone down the violence and combat the alleged addictive nature of the game. The new game is exclusive to India and will offer events and in-game items exclusive to the country.
In order to assist users who spent money on in-game purchases, Krafton Inc. introduced a data transfer system that will allow players to transfer their old PUBG Mobile account to Battlegrounds Mobile India. However, the developer recently announced that it was temporarily halting the service after July 6, and has not yet specified when it will return. This move comes after it was alleged that the game was sending data back to servers in China. As such, players who wish to retrieve their old accounts should do so before July 6.
